In fall 2013, Mount Holyoke College commissioned Rickes Associates to prepare a Facilities Master Plan Study in order to stay at the forefront of educational excellence in the twenty-first century. The goal was to review current physical space and make recommendations that would strengthen the student experience and enhance community on campus.
The study, delivered in 2014, concluded that gathering spaces that fit student lifestyles are a serious need on campus and a major factor in attracting and retaining students. First among the study’s eight recommendations was to explore possibilities for a community center with dining.
