How Pathways Works for Faculty and Staff

Pathways helps faculty, advisors, and mentors stay connected with students’ goals, progress, and well-being throughout their academic careers. Key information about each student is stored in a centralized location, and access to that information depends on the individual’s role. Pathways also supports appointment scheduling for office hours and advising appointments, and referrals making. This allows you to communicate and coordinate with others in the student’s advising network to help ensure student success.

View and share information with a student’s success network

Surfacing a student’s success network brings together a cross-functional team that can collaborate and holistically support students. You are not alone in supporting students – it is a team effort!

When students enter the College, they are given a core network, an initial group of advisors. As they move through the institution, their connections will update and expand, based on their goals and needs.

These advisors can use Pathways to share necessary information, depending on their role, with and about the student to make sure that everyone is on the same page.

Students’ core network:

  • Faculty advisors
  • Academic deans
  • Residential Life
  • Faculty instructors
  • Registrar's Office
  • Student Financial Services
  • Career Development Center

Students’ connections are updated with new advisors as they move through the College:

  • AccessAbility Services
  • Athletics
  • Fellowships
  • Pre-Health advisor
  • Student Worker Supervisor
  • McCulloch Center for Global Initiatives

Provide course feedback to students

Instructors will be asked to review their course rosters in Pathways near the start of the semester. Near the semester mid-point, instructors can provide course feedback to students enrolled in their classes by completing progress surveys. When course feedback is provided, students will receive a system generated email, with your comments, from Pathways.

Refer students to campus services for additional resources

When a student has a question or is requesting help outside of your expertise, you can give them a referral to an office or center on campus, such as:

  • Academic Deans
  • AccessAbility Services
  • Career Development Center (CDC)
  • ESOL Program
  • Fellowships
  • International Student Advising
  • International Experiential Learning
  • Student Financial Services (SFS)
  • Study Abroad

Any referral made through Pathways will send an email to the student that includes information about the office (for example their hours, phone number, location, etc.).

Manage your Pathways profile and your meeting availability

Faculty and staff can include a brief biography and overview so new students can get to know you. You can also set up your office hours for the semester so students know when you are available. Another option is to enable online appointment scheduling – this allows students to sign up to meet with you during your office hours. You may also choose to integrate your Google calendar and Pathways appointment calendar to avoid double booking yourself.
