Buddhist Co-Advisor Adi Bemak has been practicing Buddhism for four decades, beginning in 1976 when she was introduced to Buddhism in Myanmar (then Burma). Bemak deepened her practice under the instruction of internationally renowned senior teachers at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts. She completed a three-year Buddhist teacher training program at the Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California.
Since 2001 Bermak has been teaching at the Insight Meditation Center of Pioneer Valley in Easthampton, Massachusetts, where she serves on the teachers’ council. She is also on the mentoring faculty of the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, an international training designed and overseen by senior Buddhist teachers Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. For nearly 20 years she has taught Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), including several years on the faculty of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare, and Society at UMass Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts. In addition, for nearly a decade she has been teaching MBSR locally through the Valley Mindfulness Center in Florence, Massachusetts. She maintains a mindfulness-based private psychotherapy practice in Amherst, Massachusetts.
