Lighting up developing nations through solar energy

The need for electricity in developing nations from both industries and private households continues to rise; yet electricity generators are failing to meet this demand. Lack of access to the national electricity grid and increased load shedding, has led to escalated environmental degradation and reduced socio-economic productivity, which can arguably be resolved through the use of solar energy. My interest in this global issue led to my summer internship at Econet Solar, a manufacturer and distributor of solar-powered products. The focus of my internship was in product development where I worked to reinforce the company’ vision to ‘light up Africa and the rest of the developing world, through provision of affordable solar products’. This initiative is a great step towards innovation and sustainable development for both the present and future generations.
