Implementing Major to Career: Physical Therapy
As an intern at the Atlanta Falcons Physical Therapy Center and the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia I used my anthropological eye as I interacted with patients. Anthropology merges my passion for people and my interest in science to re-create the way we evaluate individuals when they are being treated. It opens my eyes to helping and catering to my patients while helping them rebuild, strengthen, and movementism parts of their body that was injured or surgically repaired. New, effective technologies, such as lokomat and lower level laser therapy, promote healing, strengthening and regeneration in muscles and nerves, but they can be intimidating to patients. Through these experiences I was able to research and implement effective technologies, hone in on patient interaction skills with an anthropological view. Most importantly mold my future career plans and learn the value of networking all while putting my major into perspective.
