Pedestrian safety on campus

Tuesday, January 19, 2021

Dear members of the Mount Holyoke community,

Now that the spring semester has begun, we are excited to have students, faculty and staff back on campus. I’d like to take a moment to remind the community of pedestrian safety.

Motorists, please adhere to the campus speed limit of 15 miles per hour and be aware of your surroundings. Please stop at the posted stop signs and marked crosswalks.

I also want to encourage the community when crossing Route 116 to use the lighted crosswalks whenever possible. don’t forget to push the button, activate the signal and look both ways to make sure vehicles have stopped before you enter the roadway.

Pedestrians should try to wear bright colored or reflective clothing when moving around campus and motor vehicle traffic should reduce speeds during these extended periods of darkness.

Thank you for your cooperation. Having a safe campus is our highest concern.
